Multiple Champions Dealt Unfortunate News at Scottish Open

The Scottish Open concluded its second day with Chris Gotterup leading the board with a score of 11-under, followed by Harry Hall with 9-under, Ludvig Åberg and Matt Fitzpatrick with 8-under.

"I think I played really well today." Gotterup summarised. "I didn't do much wrong on 16. Just didn't make a birdie on a hole that you'd like to. Whether I was in the fairway or not, I was in the right position, which is key, I feel like around here."

The tournament hasn't been smooth sailing for multiple golfers, including World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who recorded 5 bogeys in the two rounds already. He is tied in the 21st spot with a score of 5-under.

However, for some others, the event has been absolutely brutal. J.J. Spaun, who recently proved his mettle in arguably one of the hardest courses by winning the U.S. Open, carded rounds of 70-72 to fall below the cut line. And he was not alone, several others joined him.

Aldrich Potgieter, the recent Rocket Classic champion, found himself below the cut line after carding rounds of 70-72. Brian Campbell, winner of the John Deere Classic held last week, is another casualty of the Renaissance Club, signing off with a score of 5-over par.

Other notables include Collin Morikawa, Sungjae Im, Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen, Rasmus Hojgaard and Denny McCarthy.

Morikawa claimed the Open Champion title back in 2021, a tournament that tees off next week. This scenario, where a winner missed the cut in the preceding event, last happened in 2010 with Louis Oosthuizen.
