A major concern is looming over the U.S. Open as the world's top golfers prepare to take on the greens.
It's an issue that has plagued the U.S. Open and other top golf tournaments before, and it could affect some of the world's top players as everyone from Scottie Scheffler to Rory McIlroy seek the title.
The weather.
The PGA Tour warned of the potential for inclement weather. "The weather could play a major factor in the winning score. At an already tough Oakmont Country Club, heavy thunderstorms could make early week preparations difficult."
Rain was an issue at Quail Hollow, which led to a controversy over "mud balls."
The U.S. Open launched with a "wet start" Monday, June 9, as players started arriving to the course, according to Golf Monthly. And it's expected to be worse over the weekend.
Some people have already posted videos of a "brutal" rough going into the tournament. "The rough at Oakmont is 6 inches long and thick, expect massive carnage at the 125th U.S. Open," wrote the X page NUCLR Golf.

Golfweek noted that play at Oakmont Country Club has been impacted by bad weather before, adding that "there could be some adverse conditions during the 125th playing of the U.S. Open."
The U.S. Open tournament gets underway on Thursday, June 12, right as the weather is expected to worsen, although obviously weather forecasts can shift over time.

Although the weather is expected to be better mid-week, it's the weekend that could see rain, and that's when the play really heats up.
WTAE's extended forecast is predicting thunderstorms for Saturday, June 14, with a 67 percent chance of precipitation. "Scattered thunderstorms are expected on Sunday, June 15," with a 53% chance of precipitation.
There's a chance of rain during the week also, but much less of one, according to WTAE's forecast.
