After years of painstaking effort and heartbreaking disappointment, Rory McIlroy captured the 2025 Masters Tournament on Sunday, April 13, which led to widespread reaction from across the golf world.
Including those to chime in was Phil Mickelson, who has three green jackets of his own (2004, 2006, 2010). Mickelson, now 54 years old, participated in this year's Masters but failed to make the cut after posting a total score of +5 following the first two rounds of the event.
"What an incredible Masters ," Mickelson posted to his X account. "Congrats to Rory on his win and for completing the career grand slam. Amazing ."

Congrats to Rory on his win and for completing the career grand slam. Amazing
The career grand slam is a feat that includes winning all four of golf's major events over the course of one's career. McIlroy needed just the green jacket to become the sixth person in history to do so, which he donned for the first time Sunday.
McIlroy, 35 years old, joins Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Ben Hogan and Gene Sarazen as the only golfers in the game's history to win all four of its major events.
McIlroy was overcome with emotion upon claiming victory on the 18th green in the first playoff hole against Justin Rose. Both men finished the initial 72 holes at -11.
However, Rose was only able to make par on 18 in his second playing of the hole on Sunday, while McIlroy hit a brilliant second shot and then birdied by sinking a short putt to capture the championship.
