The PGA Tour action continues on in the 2025 season, with the most recent tournament taking place at the BMW Championship. The first round of play concluded Thursday evening, with the top golfers in the sport putting forth tremendous talent. With that given, a bar in terms of required skill would be placed and lived by. The one to start that off would be Robert MacIntyre, a pro since 2017 and in search of his third ever Tour victory. Coming out hot with an eight-under 62, he holds a three shot lead ahead of second round action. While on the verge of being able to add his name into Ryder Cup team projections, MacIntyre will be suiting up for a hopeful big weekend.

First Time For Everything

With eight years in the Tour as a professional, the Scottish golfer was able to create more personal history in his first round play. MacIntyre was able to finish the last six holes off with consecutive birdies. That marked the longest consecutive holes with a birdie, in his short but fulfilled career thus far.

“The last six holes is probably as good as I’ve ever putted in a stretch of holes – just so consistent,” said MacIntyre. “When you get the eye on, it’s free flowing, and it’s nice.

Getting on that groove was easier said than done, as he walked away with a bogey in the 12th hole before starting his birdie streak. One that was much needed, in order to set himself apart from a stout field of competition. Now with a lead ahead of those like Tommy Fleetwood, Scottie Scheffler, Sam Burns, the fourth career tour victory is far but very existent.

Need To Stay Consistent

The need for MacIntyre to stay consistent and strong in his play, is as dire as ever. Those under him in tournament ranking, are some of the best ever seen to play in this sport. With that understanding, there is not much room for a mess up or determent in play. It only takes a few holes to push yourself down the leaderboard, and you are forced to shoot for higher finishes resulting in bigger payouts.

“I feel like the way I play golf is better suited for the tougher tests, where you’re rewarded for hitting a fairway, you’re rewarded for hitting a green, and then take your chances with the putter. Just happy with today’s work.”

As the second round of play continues on, MacIntyre still is atop of the leaderboard as it stands. He will now have a big target on his back to knock down a few spots, and deservingly so. With a prime chance to strengthen his lead, the veteran is two rounds away from adding a fourth Tour win to his column.
