Rory McIlroy made history on Sunday, winning his second The Masters. After finally conquering Augusta National Golf Club in 2025, the Northern Irish star returned to the iconic venue ready to defend his championship and add more silverware to his collection.
McIlroy was the most consistent player of the weekend, while also showing off his dominance. He finished the second round with six birdies on eight holes, taking a historic -12 lead after 36 holes.
Despite threats from Cameron Young, Justin Rose, and Scottie Scheffler, McIlroy prevailed and won the back-to-back title, becoming the first to do so since Tiger Woods in 2001-02.
Additionally to winning his second green jacket, McIlroy left Augusta richer. The six-time major winner secured a check for $4.5 million, according to Golf Monthly. He made roughly $300,000 more than last year.
The competition confirmed that the total payout increased from $21 million in 2025 to $22.5 million in 2026.
Scottie Scheffler, who finished second, bagged $2.43 million. Justin Rose, Tyrrell Hatton, Cameron Young, and Russell Henley all won over a million dollars.
