Rory McIlroy generated some buzz before he even teed off for the second round of the Masters.

McIlroy started off his Masters title defense in style, shooting to the top of the leaderboard with a five-under 67 on Thursday. The five-time major winner looked incredibly loose at Augusta National.

“I said this when I came in on Tuesday: I think winning a Masters makes it easier to win your second one. I do,” McIlroy said. “I think it’s easier for me to make those swings and not worry about where it goes when I know that I can go to the Champions Locker Room and put my green jacket on and have a drink at the end of the day.”

Prior to teeing off this Friday afternoon, McIlroy spoke to CBS reporter Amanda Balionis about his performance in the opening round. He shared some hilarious advice he received from the legendary Jack Nicklaus.

"No f-----g double bogeys," McIlroy told Balionis.

Balionis couldn't help but chuckle at that remark from McIlroy. Although it seemed like an innocent interaction, it caused quite the debate online.

"Amanda has always been good with fake laughs," one fan commented.

"Rory might be the best golfer on the planet, but his interview skills need a major swing upgrade. Laughing it up with a reporter won't win him any more majors," a second fan declared.

"Actually what he said was pretty funny," another fan argued.

Balionis showed support for Rory last year.

After McIlroy defeated Justin Rose in a sudden-death playoff to complete the career Grand Slam. He received kind words from countless members of the golf community, including Balionis.

"It took 17 Masters starts, 11 years of attempting to complete the career Grand Slam and 73 this week but Rory McIlroy has his Green Jacket and has solidified his legacy alongside Tiger, Jack, Gary, Hogan and Sarazen," Balionis wrote on social media. "What a week and a battle down to the very end."

If McIlroy successfully defends his title at Augusta, he'll most likely sit down with Balionis for a one-on-one interview.
