The 125th U.S. Open is heading into a dramatic final day, and all eyes are on Oakmont Country Club. Known for its legendary winners and brutal difficulty, the historic course has tested the best, but Sam Burns stands one shot ahead of the pack after a composed 1-under 69 on Saturday. With a total score of 4-under, Burns leads the charge with contenders like JJ Spaun and Adam Scott right behind him, and Viktor Hovland just three shots back.
Burns, chasing his first major title, is the only player in the top five without a three-putt all week, a testament to his stellar putting on Oakmont’s punishing greens. After a clutch two-putt par on the 18th, he enters Sunday with confidence, and with the support of a familiar face. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, his roommate for the week, summed up Burns in one word during NBC’s broadcast: “hypercompetitive.”
The two share more than just a room they’ve spent downtime watching the show Paradise together after putting their kids to bed. That quiet routine might just be the good luck charm Burns needs. Scheffler praised Burns’ preparation and mindset
As per ASAP Sports, Burns said, "Scottie's obviously an incredible player. I don't think I need to say that (laughing). But I think we obviously spend a lot of time together and being able to talk to him and just kind of learn from him and ask him questions, it's been really cool."
Cara Banks just said Scottie Scheffler told her that he and roommate Sam Burns watched the show "Paradise" last night after putting the kids to bed. Guessing Sam will want to keep the same routine Saturday night if he keeps this up.

Burns, in turn, had nothing but admiration for Scheffler. “As good of a player as he is, he’s a better guy,” Burns said. “He’s an easy guy to root for.”
Their bond is clear, and it’s fueled both friendship and fierce competition. With history on the line at Oakmont, Burns hopes to turn that bond and his hot putter into major glory.
