The Subtle Move That Can Instantly Lead to Longer Tee Shots (Really!)

Getting more power in the golf swing is the goal of every amateur or beginner player. While we all hope that, one day, we'll be able to bomb it off the tee like PGA player Cameron Young, the truth is this: Until you learn the proper fundamentals, you'll never see increased distance.

For those searching for more power, speed, and distance, you might be shocked to hear this — it doesn't come from just swinging harder.

Confused? You aren't alone, as many average golfers think swinging out of their shoes will give them the results they dream of.

But in the golf lesson below, golf coach Ashley Bogaerts explains how just one subtle move can lead to a more efficient (and powerful) golf swing — so take a look for yourself!

How to Get More Power in Your Golf Swing

As mentioned above, swinging as hard as you can won't lead to more power in your golf swing. In fact, many times, it leads to even more inconsistency, as the swing sequence gets thrown off — which can cause all sorts of bad problems in amateur and beginner golfers.

Instead, this golf lesson focuses on getting full extension in the backswing, which comes from a bigger rotation before transitioning into the downswing through impact.

Bogaerts explains this at the beginning of the video, emphasizing on starting slow in order to get the proper feel.

"Focus on feeling the club at the top," she tells me. "That's also going to allow your system to feel more of that big turn — and then you can fire through [impact]."

After following her instructions, she then tells me where the one power move can come from: The ground!

As I'm at the top of my backswing, she says my first move as I start coming into impact should be pushing my lead foot down, which provides a base that leads to more energy (and power!) through the rest of my golf swing.

"Now make sure you push down [onto your lead foot], rotate, and then just let the club release."

So if you're searching for more power off the tee, head to the driving range and start practicing this subtle move. As you get more comfortable using ground force, you'll start to see steady distance gains — which is sure to impress your playing partners.
