The wait is finally over. After months of incredible golf, jaw-dropping moments and plenty of surprises, the TGL playoffs kick off Tuesday night with a doubleheader that should have fans on the edge of their seats from first tee to final putt.
I’ll be honest: when Season 2 started, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But this league has delivered in ways that exceeded even the most optimistic predictions. From Billy Horschel’s walk-off eagle in the opener to Tom Kim’s go-ahead ace in the regular season finale, we’ve seen shot-making that belongs in highlight reels for years to come.
And now? Now it gets real. Four teams remain, and only one will hoist the SoFi Cup when it’s all said and done.
Tuesday’s action at SoFi Center features two Semifinals matches that couldn’t be more intriguing. The first tees off at 6:30 p.m. ET on ESPN, with defending champion Atlanta Drive GC taking on Los Angeles Golf Club. Then at 9 p.m., Jupiter Links Golf Club squares off against Boston Common Golf in what promises to be another classic between these two teams.
Both matches are single-elimination. Win and you’re in the Finals. Lose and you’re watching from home. There’s no margin for error, no second chances, no tomorrow if things don’t go your way.
That’s what makes playoff golf so compelling, and I can’t wait to be there in person to see how it all unfolds.
The first Semifinal pits No. 3 seed Atlanta against No. 2 seed Los Angeles, and the storylines are everywhere you look. LAGC dominated their first meeting this season with a 7-3 victory, jumping out to a 3-0 lead and never looking back. They’ve been one of the league’s best teams in Triples all season, ranking second in both points won and holes won in the opening nine.
Atlanta, meanwhile, has been the opposite. They struggle early but turn it on late, leading the entire league in Singles holes won. That’s a dangerous formula if they can keep things close through the first nine holes.
Patrick Cantlay, Billy Horschel and Chris Gotterup will represent Atlanta, while Los Angeles counters with Justin Rose, Sahith Theegala and Tommy Fleetwood. The Singles matchups look evenly balanced on paper, which means this one could easily come down to the final hole.
The second Semifinal might be even better. Jupiter and Boston have already played twice this season, and both matches went to overtime. Jupiter won the first meeting 4-3 in a thriller that featured Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy going head-to-head. Boston got revenge earlier this month with a 7-6 overtime victory that was just as dramatic.
Now they meet for a third time with everything on the line. Max Homa, Akshay Bhatia and Tom Kim will tee it up for Jupiter, while Boston brings Rory McIlroy, Keegan Bradley and Adam Scott. Both teams are making their first playoff appearances, which adds another layer of intrigue to an already compelling matchup.
The Kim vs. Scott pairing in Singles should be particularly fun to watch. Kim made that incredible hole-in-one at On the Rocks to help send Jupiter to the playoffs, and that same hole is back in play Tuesday night. You know he’ll be thinking about it when he steps to the tee.
I’ve covered a lot of golf over the years, and what TGL has accomplished in its second season deserves recognition. The format works. The technology enhances rather than distracts. The team element adds genuine drama and camaraderie that you don’t always see in individual golf.
But more than anything, the players have bought in completely. You can see it in how they celebrate big shots, how they support their teammates and how much winning means to them. This isn’t exhibition golf. These guys are competing at the highest level, and it shows in the quality of play we’ve witnessed all season.
The fact that we’re heading into the playoffs with four legitimate contenders speaks to how competitive this league has become. Any of these teams could win it all, and I wouldn’t be surprised by any outcome.
Before the playoffs begin, TGL is giving fans a chance to vote on the best moments, plays and performances from Season 2. The “Season’s Best” fan vote is live now at https://tglgolf.com/activations/seasons-best, and it’s a great way to relive some of the incredible highlights we’ve seen over the past few months.
Whether it’s Kim’s ace, Horschel’s walk-off eagle or any of the other spectacular shots that have defined this season, fans can weigh in on what stood out most. It’s a fun way to engage with the league and celebrate everything that’s made Season 2 so memorable.
I’ll be at SoFi Center on Tuesday night, and I’m genuinely excited to see how this all plays out. The atmosphere at these matches has been electric all season, and with playoff stakes on the line, I expect the energy to be off the charts.
Two matches. Four teams. A spot in the Finals for each winner. This is what we’ve been building toward all season, and if the playoffs are anything like the regular season, we’re in for something special.
The 2026 TGL season has been a blast. Now let’s see who can finish the job.
