Tiger Woods is making his long-anticipated return, but not in a PGA-sanctioned event.
Woods informed ESPN that he'll compete in a TGL finals matchup on Tuesday night. The legend will play Match 2 of a best-of-three series for Jupiter Links against L.A. Golf Club.
Woods teams up with Max Homa and Tom Kim to replace Akshay Bhatia, who is competing in the Hero Indian Open this week. Kevin Kisner took Bhatia's spot during Monday's 6-5 opening loss in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
An indoor golf league may not be the grand return fans envisioned for Woods, who hasn't participated in a PGA Tour event since the 2024 Open Championship. He's also gone more than a year since swinging in the TGL, a new league Woods cofounded alongside Rory McIlroy and Mike McCarley.
Woods has experienced numerous health obstacles in his pursuit of a comeback. The 15-time major champion ruptured his Achilles last March and underwent lumbar disk replacement surgery in October.
The 50-year-old wouldn't commit to a return when discussing his recovery after Jupiter Links' semifinal win.
"I've been working on it. Sometimes I have good days, sometimes I have bad days. Disk replacement is not a lot of fun," Woods said.
" ... I think that I have been trying to play each and every one of these matches. I've been trying to come back. But it just hasn't worked out that way. ... But the guys here, this team, we have so much fun, I really don't want to screw up the lineup, I just want these guys to keep playing."
He's taken a wait-and-see approach to his rehab before Monday night's return reveal.
"I've had a lot of procedures prior to that, so the body doesn't quite heal like it was when I was 24," Woods said. "Doesn't quite bounce back. So I have good days when I can pretty much do anything, and other days where it's hard to just to move around."
Many fans are likely more curious about whether Woods' return could also mean an appearance at Augusta National. The Masters start on April 9, and the five-time champion hasn't competed in the prestigious major since enduring the worst round of his career in 2024.
Woods will first return for the TGL finals, which start Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
