Phil Mickelson hinted earlier this week that this week's U.S. Open might be the last one he plays before retiring. The 54-year-old golfer went viral last week after a flop shot at the LIV Golf Invitational in Virginia. This week, he’s again making headlines but for the wrong reasons.

A video of Mickelson during a practice session at Oakmont shows him struggling to get the ball out of the rough and onto the green.

Many players have already called this course one of the toughest, but no one expected it to give a veteran renowned for his short game such a hard time. Fans have poured in the comments, wording their opinions.

"I can’t even imagine how much I would struggle to get this ball out. Imagine the best short game player not able to get the ball out. Oakmont is diabolical indeed." A fan said.

"Phil not even making the cut this weekend." Another put forward his harsh prediction.

"I took out a 6 figure loan and put it all on this man to miss the cut, and couldn’t be happier with my decision" One joked.

"It’s because he is trying to land it a foot in front of him but virtually impossible to be that delicate in rough so thick." A fan pointed out.

"Looks like he is just practicing flopping it out of the rough to see what it does he won’t be doing that on the course" Another echoed.

"You can never count Phil out. I’m not sure he can win the US Open, but I wouldn’t say it’s not going to happen. If he does win it would be legendary!" A fan wrote.
