The United Airlines official Twitter account responded to Aine Donegan's message and provided an expected, generic answer, telling her to report the incident by calling an 800 number for the Baggage Resolution Center.
As of 4 p.m. ET Thursday, Donegan was in second place after carding a three-under 69 in the first round, just two strokes behind Xiyu Janet Lin.
Per Brentley Romine of the Golf Channel, the amateur had "several" of her clubs damaged during the travel, including her "3-wood, hybrid and wedges" on top of the driver. The golf bag arrived on Tuesday, two days ahead of round one of the tournament.
The major is scheduled to run through Sunday.
Donegan only just finished her sophomore season at LSU. She's one of 28 amateurs who teed off Thursday at Pebble Beach.
The 144th-ranked women's amateur in the world made for her first U.S. Women's Open by shooting a three-over 145 at a 36-hole qualifier in early June in San Mateo, CA. The native of Ireland took part in match play at The Amateur Championship in England last month and competed in the Vagliano Cup in Scotland on June 30 and July 1.
According to lsusports.net, Donegan took part in a practice round with LPGA legend and 10-time major winner Annika Sorenstam on Tuesday.
"It is so exciting," she said. "I am so grateful to be here at such a special place like Pebble Beach. It is so amazing to be here and be among the best players in the world."
