Why Did Simone Biles Consider Skipping Events After a $23K Expense?

Mega events have been a part of Simone Biles’ lifestyle. But coming from her latest red carpet, she had a clear verdict about distancing herself from them, primarily due to the associated cost.

Wearing a gold-feathered Cong Tri dress, one of the most decorated gymnasts of history, Biles, showed up to the Laureus World Sports Awards in Madrid. Following the event, the 29-year-old expressed shock at a particular thing and attributed her distancing from such gatherings to it.

“Recently, at a red-carpet event, with the stylist and the hair and makeup team, my grand total was $22,000—actually, $23,000. But is that normal?” she asked in her TikTok video on April 27. “I get inflation; I get that prices these days have gone up. But if that’s the new normal, y’all can have it. Y’all will never see me at another event.”

Biles did not explicitly state which red carpet she was referring to. But her elegant hairdo and dress were stunning at the LWS Award on April 20. And apparently, that is the last award event she attended so far.

Next, Biles is scheduled to show up at the Met Gala on Monday, May 4. But given her last remark, the star would much rather “be staying inside for the foreseeable future” than “paying these prices each and every time.”

So, whether Biles shows up in New York or not, time will tell. But moving aside from these event shows, she did weigh in on returning to her usual sport.

Simone Biles Might Return to Gymnastics

After pushing Team USA to a gold-medal run and securing gold herself in the 2024 Paris Olympics, the 29-year-old stepped away from competitive gymnastics. But keeping eyes on the 2028 LA Olympics, there’s some hope.

“I feel like we’re still at a 50-50 and that we’re still on a time crunch here now, it’s almost half of 2026,” the 29-year-old said to CNN Sports recently. “We’re going to have to make these decisions pretty quickly.”

The deciders of her return would be mental health and how she can get back to the shape for a competitive realm, like the Olympics. Coincidentally, her return to both an award show and gymnastics is debatable.
