From Paris to Madrid: 20 beautiful European parks

Europe has long been a popular vacation destination for Americans for many reasons, from beautiful architecture in walkable cities, terrace dining, and, of course, amazing food. However, an often overlooked perk of a European getaway is the fantastic parks around the cities. Here are my top 20 picks!

Jardin du Luxembourg, Paris

One of the most iconic parks on the continent, the Jardin du Luxembourg is a must-visit on any trip to Paris. Located in the lovely 6th arrondissement, it’s an easy stroll from the Seine. Bask on a sunny day in front of the fountain, grab a snack from one of the food carts, or have a picnic on one of the lawns where it’s allowed!

Regent’s Park, London

If you want to catch some of the best views in the city, you can’t go wrong with the Primrose Hill neighborhood. Beautiful colored Victorian homes take you back in time. It’s also a fantastic place to get out of the hustle and bustle of the city, as the area has a more village-like feel. And at the heart of it all is Regent’s Park, the perfect place for a picnic or catch-up with friends.

Englischer Garten, Munich

The English Garden, or Englischer Garten, is just outside the main part of central Munich. Thus, if you’re looking for greenery or a quieter area, this is the place to go! Wander or bike along the river, or bring a blanket and rest. You might even catch the famous river surfers on the Eisbach.

This amazing respite on the outskirts of the urban core is great for walking or enjoying a sunny day in Brussels. Pro tip: Pay the 5 Euro fee to hike the 170 steps to the top of the Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and Military History (the actual museum entrance is more expensive) for panoramic views of the park and city.

Back in the day, many European capitals, including Vienna, were separated into Royal and non-royal spaces, including parks. The Volksgarten, or “People’s Garden,” was the one public garden given to non-royals to enjoy and remains a favorite in the city to this day.
