2023 MLB awards betting preview: NL Rookie of the Year

With spring training approaching, it's time to start thinking about 2023 MLB future bets. With most sportsbooks offering odds on award winners, we dive into the NL Rookie of the Year market.

National League Rookie of the Year

Corbin Carroll, Arizona Diamondbacks, OF (+350)

The 22-year old saw limited action in 2022 and is expected to start in the outfield. Last season in the minors, he showed off a rare mix of speed and power by hitting .307 with 24 home runs and stealing 31 bases in 93 games. Fifteen of his 27 hits in a short stint in the big leagues went for extra bases.

Per CBS Sports.com, "Carroll is a well-rounded center fielder with top-of-the-scale speed who ought to provide oodles of secondary value. He should begin the season in the majors."

Jordan Walker, St. Louis Cardinals, OF, 3B (+750)

Walker is still only 20, but he has superstar written all over him. In the minors in 2022, he hit .306 with 19 home runs, 31 doubles and 68 RBI. He is looking to break camp with the major league team, and would certainly have lower odds if he were a lock for the opening-day roster.

Per MLB.com, "Walker will have all eyes on him to see how he handles the pressures and rigors of being a starting outfielder. The 20-year-old is 6-foot-5, 250 pounds — and he has an impressive mental maturity to match."

Francisco Alvarez, New York Mets, catcher (+1200)

As a 19-year-old, Alvarez hit 24 home runs in 2021 and followed that up with 27 home runs in the minors last season. In only 12 at-bats in the big leagues in 2022, he had two hits, including a tape-measure homer against Washington.

The Mets hope to have him split catching duties with veteran Omar Navarez and spend time as the designated hitter, getting him plenty of at-bats.

"We think Francisco not only has a chance to be a quality player, but a quality teammate," said Mets manager Buck Showalter, per Yahoo! Sports. Showalter also noted how much pitchers enjoy throwing to Alvarez.
