The Rangers have seen their fair share of injuries this season, and Texas added another one to that list on August 28. Infielder Corey Seager went down with appendicitis, complicating his status for the rest of 2025. Additionally, Francisco Alvarez is nursing another hand injury to go with his thumb sprain.
One day after Corey Seager hit his second home run in as many nights, the Rangers shortstop needed an appendectomy and is out indefinitely, per the team.
The team has not ruled Seager out for the rest of the season.
As noted yesterday, Francisco Alvarez was taken out of the first game of his rehab assignment with Syracuse (AAA) after a hit by pitch. On the 28th, the Mets provided an update.
Alvarez suffered a broken left pinky, an injury deemed a short-term setback by the team. The Mets hope he can resume baseball activities as early as this coming weekend.
He was sent to Syracuse to rehab from a UCL sprain in his right thumb. The sprain is an injury that he’ll look to play through for the rest of 2025.
Cubs pitcher Jameson Taillon was placed on the injured list with a left groin strain.
The news came late on August 27, as Taillon had been dealing with lingering groin soreness after aggravating it this past Sunday. Taillon’s spot in the rotation will be taken by Javier Assad.
Orioles pitcher Tyler Wells tossed 6.1 innings (90 pitches) for Norfolk (AAA) on August 27. Wells struck out five.
David Festa (Twins), Taylor Trammell (Astros), and Ryan Bliss (Mariners) were sent out on rehab assignments.
Robert Refsnyder and Justin Slaten (Red Sox) were activated off the injured list.
