2025 Injury Report: Updates on Bichette, Palencia, Turner

The last thing playoff-bound teams want to do in September is hold their breath on injuries. Several teams, though, are doing just that. Trea Turner left the Phillies’ game on September 7 with a hamstring strain, while Cubs closer Daniel Palencia’s tough day ended with a shoulder injury.

Bichette out on September 7

Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette did not play in Toronto’s game on September 7 against the Yankees.

Bichette got hurt the day earlier when he slid into Austin Wells at home plate, just before a lengthy rain delay in The Bronx.

The team hopes that Bichette can play on September 9, when Toronto plays the Astros.

Palencia leaves game

Cubs reliever Daniel Palencia left the team’s game against Washington on September 7 with a shoulder injury.

Palencia sustained the injury after extending out when throwing a 100 MPH fastball in the ninth inning. Before that pitch, Palencia gave up four hits and five earned runs without recording an out.

Turner dealing with hamstring injury

Phillies shortstop Trea Turner exited the team’s game on the 7th with a hamstring strain.

Turner suffered the injury running out a ground ball. The veteran infielder said after the game he felt something grabbing on him. Turner thought he could remain but wanted to “limit the damage.”

He will get further examined on September 8.

Rehab assignments

Nationals pitcher Josiah Gray walked two and struck out one over 1.1 IP (34 pitches) for Wilmington (A+). It was Gray’s first action since June 30, 2024.

Orioles outfielder Tyler O’Neill went 1-3 as the DH for Chesapeake (AA). He came out for a sub in the eighth inning.

Mets pitcher Tylor Megill threw two innings (67 pitches) for Syracuse (AAA). Megill touched 96 MPH and struck out three.

Cole Ragans struck out seven over three innings (45 pitches) for Omaha (AAA). Ragans maxed out at 97 MPH and averaged 95 MPH.

Other injury news

Paul Goldschmidt (bone bruise in knee) did not start for the second-straight day for the Yankees. He did come in as a defensive sub in the ninth inning on the 7th.

Christian Yelich missed his fifth-straight game on September 7.

The Twins placed Ryan Jeffers on the 7-day concussion IL.

Anthony DeSclafani (Twins) and Reed Garrett (Mets) were activated off the injured list.
