One 2025 AL All-Star hit the injured list on July 19, while another looks to avoid the list. Those were some of the injury-related pieces of news on the day. Additionally, Grayson Rodriguez and Tanner Houck, both of whom are on the IL, are dealing with setbacks.
The Cardinals placed infielder Nolan Gorman on the 10-day IL with lower back pain. The move is retroactive to July 13, one day before the All-Star break.
Gorman was scratched from the Cardinals’ lineup on July 18, before the team made the decision to shut him down to let the inflammation subside.
Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan missed his second straight game on July 19 with a wrist injury.
The team is optimistic Kwan won’t require an IL stint.
Yet again, Grayson Rodriguez has been shut down.
Rodriguez, recovering from a lat injury, is currently dealing with elbow pain. The Orioles’ right-hander was originally shut down in March due to elbow/triceps trouble.
Tanner Houck was on a rehab assignment to get back to Major League action. However, that has ended for the interim.
Houck suffered a right pronator strain yet again, the injury that shut him down in the middle of May. The right-hander is undergoing tests, per MLB.com.
Orioles pitcher Cade Povich struck out six over 3.1 IP (62 pitches) for Norfolk (AAA). Povich capped out at 94 MPH during the outing.
Spencer Arrighetti (Astros) struck out four over three scoreless innings for Corpus Christi (AA). Arrighetti threw 43 pitches in the appearance.
The White Sox placed All-Star pitcher Shane Smith on the 15-day IL with a left ankle strain.
Philadelphia, meanwhile, placed Alec Bohm on the IL with a left rib fracture.
Brooks Baldwin (White Sox), Zebby Matthews (Twins), and Ken Waldichuk (Athletics) were activated off the injured list.
