In what’s been a tough season for the Giants, another notable injury was made public on August 12. This one involved Willy Adames, who was pulled thanks to a back issue. Plus, Drew Thorpe & Oneil Cruz were among the players on rehab assignments.

Adames removed

Giants shortstop Willy Adames was pulled from the club’s game on August 12 due to a back injury.

Per manager Tony Vitello, Adames will have two days of rest, meaning he’ll likely miss the club’s game on August 14 versus the Rockies. However, Adames is unlikely to be placed on the injured list. Adames has been playing through the back injury for a few weeks.

Crochet still limited

Red Sox manager Chad Tracy noted that Garrett Crochet is still limited to throwing from 60 feet on flat ground.

Boston cleared Crochet, who’s been out for months due to various injuries, to start a throwing program earlier this month.

On another note, Garrett Whitlock was unavailable for the Sox on August 12 due to elbow inflammation.

IL moves

Rockies infielder Kyle Karros landed on the 7-day IL with a concussion.

The Tigers placed outfielder Riley Greene on the 10-day IL with a right hamstring strain. Greene was removed from the Tigers’ game on the 11th with the aforementioned hamstring injury.

Athletics pitcher Jose Suarez was placed on the injured list with a hip strain.

Rehab assignments

White Sox pitcher Drew Thorpe struck out six over five innings (76 pitches) for Triple-A Charlotte. Thorpe averaged 91 MPH on his four-seam fastball. He topped out at 93 MPH.

Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino went 1-for-5 with Triple-A Omaha.

Pirates outfielder Oneil Cruz went 2-for-5 with a strikeout for Double-A Altoona.

Cubs reliever Shelby Miller struck out three over one inning for Double-A Knoxville.

Other notes

Mariners infielder Cole Young was removed on the 12th due to dizziness.

Jose Altuve (foot) sat on August 12.
