It feels like Jeremy Pena always seems to be dealing with some knick or bruise. And on August 27, the Astros shortstop took another hit when he was hit on the hand with a fastball while facing the Yankees. Additionally, Roki Sasaki is on the injured list, and Will Smith & Roman Anthony were out on rehab assignments down in Triple-A.

Pena hit on hand

Astros infielder Jeremy Pena took a fastball off his left hand from Gerrit Cole. He did stay in for the remainder of the game.

X-rays on his hand came back negative (h/t New York Times).

IL moves

The Royals placed infielder Michael Massey on the 7-day IL with a concussion.

Cardinals pitcher Peter Strzelecki was placed on the 15-day IL with right forearm extensor inflammation.

And as expected, Dodgers pitcher Roki Sasaki was placed on the 15-day IL with a right middle finger blister.

Jonatan Clase (plantar fasciitis) was transferred to the 60-day IL.

Rehab assignments

Yet again, the Red Sox’s trio of rehabbers played with Triple-A Worcester. Roman Anthony went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Isiah Kiner-Falefa also went 2-for-4. Trevor Story went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

White Sox pitcher Davis Martin struck out five over five scoreless innings (59 pitches) for Triple-A Charlotte.

The Dodgers had two notable rehab assignments in Oklahoma City. Catcher Will Smith went 0-for-3 with a strikeout, while reliever Blake Treinen walked one in 0.1 IP.

Other notes

Diamondbacks third baseman Nolan Arenado was not in the club’s starting lineup against the Giants thanks to a thumb injury (h/t Arizona Republic).

Nationals outfielder James Wood ran out on the field on August 27.

Bo Bichette (foot), Jung Hoo Lee (elbow), and Jake Bauers (shin) remained out of their teams’ respective lineups.
