These past few weeks have been good to Nolan Arenado, who’s been highly productive offensively for the Diamondbacks. However, Arizona will hope for good news on the third baseman, who left early on August 16. As for the Cubs, Dansby Swanson will likely be headed to the injured list.
Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson was removed early on August 16, and it looks like he’ll be out for some time, beyond a one- or two-day absence.
Swanson, who left with an oblique injury, is expected to go on the injured list per manager Craig Counsell. The Cubs shortstop will get an MRI this coming week.
Diamondbacks third baseman Nolan Arenado was removed against the Braves with what was originally called trunk discomfort. Arenado was visibly uncomfortable and favoring his side after he ran out a ground ball in the fourth inning.
Arenado, who indicated that he believes it’s an intercostal muscle strain, will undergo an MRI.
The Red Sox placed outfielder Masataka Yoshida on the 10-day IL with a left hamstring strain. Additionally, pitcher Justin Slaten went on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation.
Dodgers pitcher Justin Wrobleski went on the 15-day IL with left forearm inflammation.
The Athletics placed outfielder Tyler Soderstrom on the 10-day IL with a left hip impingement. Aside from that, Justin Sterner was transferred to the 60-day IL.
Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story was one of several players to kick off a rehab assignment on August 16. With Triple-A Worcester, Story went 1-for-2 with a run scored.
Orioles catcher Samuel Basallo did, as well. Basallo went 1-for-4 with a double and three RBI.
Cubs reliever Daniel Palencia struck out three over one inning for Triple-A Iowa. Palencia averaged 99 MPH and topped out at 100 MPH.
Nationals manager Blake Butera indicated on August 16 that James Wood, on the IL with an oblique strain, has had a slow recovery process thus far. Wood was placed on the injured list back in early August.
Guardians outfielder Chase DeLauter was pulled early on the 16th due to mild hamstring tightness.
Brice Turang (knee), Hunter Goodman (shoulder), Trea Turner (knee), and Willy Adames (back) were out of their teams’ respective starting lineups.
