It wasn’t a good day for hot-hitting catchers. Drake Baldwin, one of baseball’s best hitters thus far, suffered an oblique injury. The Twins, meanwhile, will be without Ryan Jeffers for some time thanks to a hamate bone injury.

Diaz removed from game

In what was a good day for Yandy Diaz beforehand, the Rays infielder was removed from the team’s game in the eighth inning.

Diaz was hit by a Yennier Cano fastball on his left hand.

IL moves

The big news on the day came out of Miami, where the Braves are playing. Catcher Drake Baldwin was diagnosed with a Grade 1 oblique strain, a less severe one, and placed on the 10-day IL. The Braves were previously without Sean Murphy, also on the IL.

Twins catcher Ryan Jeffers landed on the injured list with a broken hamate bone.

Arizona placed catcher James McCann on the 10-day IL with a strained right quad.

Blue Jays pitcher Joe Mantiply was placed on the 15-day IL with left knee inflammation.

Astros pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. was sidelined with right shoulder inflammation and placed on the IL.

Garrett Acton (Twins), Kyle Teel (White Sox), and Clay Holmes (Mets) were transferred to the 60-day IL.

Rehab assignments

Tigers pitcher Troy Melton struck out six over five innings (63 pitches) for Low-A Lakeland. Melton averaged 97 MPH on his four-seam fastball.

Danny Coulombe struck out one and gave up one hit over .2 IP for Triple-A Worcester.

White Sox outfielder Austin Hays went 1-3 with a home run for Triple-A Charlotte.

Cardinals outfielder Lars Nootbaar went 0-3 with a strikeout for Triple-A Memphis.

Other notes

Rangers pitcher MacKenzie Gore is dealing with left lat tightness.

Yankees DH Giancarlo Stanton has yet to resume running, per manager Aaron Boone.

Kyle Schwarber (Phillies) and Ernie Clement (Blue Jays) were both out of their respective teams’ starting lineups with illness. Clement, though, came off the bench.

Jung Hoo Lee (back) was left out of the Giants’ starting lineup.
