It was a light day across Major League Baseball on April 27, meaning the injury news was light. However, there was a positive update in Toronto regarding George Springer, plus a notable scratch in Pittsburgh for the Pirates.
The Pirates made outfielder Oneil Cruz a late scratch before the team’s game against the Cardinals on April 27.
Per the team, Cruz is dealing with an illness and has undergone treatment from the Pirates’ medical team.
George Springer was seen working out at Rogers Centre, as he ran the bases and took some swings in his return from a toe injury. And the good news is that Springer won’t require a rehab assignment, per manager John Schneider.
Springer will continue his workouts on the 28th and could return sometime this week.
As for Max Scherzer, the Blue Jays pitcher was placed on the 15-day IL, retroactive to April 25. It’s for two ailments, one being left ankle inflammation, and the other being right forearm tendinitis.
Lastly, Schneider noted that Andres Gimenez, who did not play on the 27th, is banged up.
The White Sox placed Tanner Murray on the 10-day IL with a left shoulder dislocation.
Christopher Morel (Marlins), Phil Maton (Cubs), and Austin Hays (White Sox) were activated off the injured list.
Yankees DH Giancarlo Stanton (calf) did not start for the third consecutive day on April 27. Per manager Aaron Boone, he will be placed on the IL with a right calf strain.
