Edwin Diaz is back on the injured list, as the Dodgers placed the embattled closer there with a neck injury. That was one of several injury-related notes from August 18, a list that also included Ketel Marte.
Yet again, the Ketel Marte saga took a turn on August 18.
Marte returned to Arizona for an MRI on his knee. This is notable for several reasons. One, the infielder left the team under mysterious pretenses on the 17th, forcing the Diamondbacks to put him on the restricted list. Two, Marte did leave with knee soreness several days earlier when the club was in Atlanta.
Manager Torey Lovullo indicated that he had no other information on Marte.
The Dodgers placed reliever Edwin Diaz on the 15-day IL with neck inflammation. Diaz, who came back from the injured list after recovering from elbow surgery, had a miserable return. The closer for Los Angeles walked five and allowed 16 hits over 7.2 IP.
After missing several games with a shoulder injury, the Rockies placed catcher Hunter Goodman on the 10-day IL with a left shoulder strain.
The Red Sox had several notable players on rehab assignments. Trevor Story, still with Triple-A Worcester, went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts. Roman Anthony, meanwhile, started his rehab assignment with Double-A Portland. Anthony went 2-for-2 with a home run and two walks.
Orioles catcher Samuel Basallo went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts for Double-A Chesapeake. It should be noted that Basallo played first base.
Brewers shortstop Cooper Pratt went 1-for-2 with a run scored for High-A Wisconsin.
Nationals pitcher Josiah Gray struck out one over one inning for Low-A Fredericksburg. Gray mixed his pitches in the outing. His fastball velocity sat at 91-92 MPH.
We should cover the New York star outfielders on the IL. Aaron Judge will start a hitting progression this week, per manager Aaron Boone. Judge was previously cleared to run. As for Cody Bellinger, he’s slated to rehab with Triple-A Scranton later this week.
Mets outfielder Juan Soto was doing light sprints on the field before the club’s game against the Padres on August 18.
Guardians outfielder Jo Adell, who had a monster day at the plate, was removed with knee pain, per manager Stephen Vogt.
Willy Adames (back), Taylor Ward (quad), Jacob Wilson (shoulder), and Nolan Arenado (abdomen) were out of their respective teams’ starting lineups.
