The Blue Jays know that Jose Berrios won’t be back for 2026 — and beyond. Berrios underwent season-ending elbow surgery, meaning he won’t get a chance to rebound after a tough end to 2025 for him. Plus, Brandon Nimmo and Jackson Merrill were both forced out of their respective games on May 20 due to injuries.
Rangers outfielder Brandon Nimmo was removed from the team’s game against Colorado due to hamstring tightness. He left in the fifth after he picked up a single. However, earlier in the contest, he did have a close call when he nearly collided with Kyle Freeland at first base.
Nimmo has been removed from multiple games since late last month because of that hamstring.
The Blue Jays announced that Jose Berrios, who had not pitched in the Majors this season, had full Tommy John surgery.
Berrios will be sidelined at least for the rest of 2026.
Padres outfielder Jackson Merrill was removed from the team against the Dodgers with a back injury.
On the Padres’ broadcast, Merrill was seen grabbing at his back in the first inning. In the top of the first, he attempted to rob Shohei Ohtani of a lead-off home run.
Rays infielder Ben Williamson was placed on the IL with a low back sprain.
Victor Vodnik was placed on the IL with right ulnar nerve inflammation.
Mariners reliever Gabe Speier struck out two over one inning for High-A Everett. However, he gave up three earned runs and two home runs.
Blue Jays outfielder Nathan Lukes walked twice and picked up a sac fly RBI for Low-A Dunedin.
Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez went 1-4 with a strikeout.
Yankees outfielder Trent Grisham left the team’s game on May 20 with knee discomfort.
Tigers infielder Gleyber Torres, currently on the IL, is not able to swing a bat with full strength yet. This is according to manager A.J. Hinch (h/t MLive.com).
Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (triceps) did not start on May 20.
