The 19th of May featured a heavyweight pitching bout in Philly between Chase Burns and Jesus Luzardo, plus Jacob Misiorowski in Chicago. And in the American League, the Guardians and Rays, two teams in first place of their respective divisions, both came out on top again.

Guards’ win streak to four

Cleveland’s bullpen tossed four scoreless innings to win 4-3 over the Tigers.

Parker Messick struck out six over five innings but gave up three runs (two ER), two of which came off a Riley Greene two-run home run. However, a Brayan Rocchio grounder that scored Steven Kwan was the difference for Cleveland.

Colin Holderman, Erik Sabrowski, Tim Herrin, Hunter Gaddis, and Cade Smith kept the Tigers silent from the sixth through the end.

The Guardians now have a four-game win streak, while the Tigers lost their fourth straight.

Rays keep pace with Yankees

The Yankees won but so did the Rays, who maintain a three-game lead over New York (AL) for the top spot in the AL East.

Taylor Ward‘s lead-off home run in the first off Griffin Jax was the only run scored by the O’s. Baltimore only managed to scrounge out four hits, three of which came off Jax. The Rays’ bullpen held Baltimore in check, and former Oriole Bryan Baker tossed a scoreless frame for his 13th save of 2026.

Nationals win wild contest

In what was yet another wild game between the Nationals and Mets, Washington came out on top 9-6.

Bo Bichette had a loud start, as the Mets shortstop hit two home runs in the first two innings. New York (NL) had a 5-0 lead after the top of the second but things came off the rails afterwards. James Wood hit an inside-the-park grand slam after rookie Nick Morabito failed to come up with a catch.

The Mets then saw Marcus Semien fail to turn a double play in the fourth (the Mets committed two errors that inning), which helped precipitate a four-run inning for the Nationals.

Miz sharp yet again

Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski struck out eight over six scoreless innings for Milwaukee, as the team from Wisconsin won yet another game over the Cubs.

Milwaukee was able to score three runs off Ben Brown, who entered play on May 19 with a sub-2.00 ERA. Then, in the eighth, Brice Turang hit a two-run shot, his seventh of the year, off Trent Thornton.

With that win, the Brewers vaulted past the Cubs for first in the NL Central.

Cardinals win in extras

The Cardinals, meanwhile, are tied with the Cubs for second in the NL Central and a half-game behind the Brewers. St. Louis defeated the Pirates 9-6 in extras.

Riley O’Brien blew an 8-6 lead in the ninth. Spencer Horwitz‘s single in the ninth tied the game after a run scored off a Marcell Ozuna double-play. But in the tenth, Ivan Herrera hit the Cardinals’ fourth home run of the game to end the game for St. Louis.
