It took Eloy Jimenez over a year but he’s back in the Majors. The now-Blue Jay was selected by Toronto on April 12, as Toronto navigates early-season injuries. Meanwhile, the Mets and Angels both added new relievers.

Blue Jays select Jimenez

The Blue Jays promoted outfielder Eloy Jimenez on April 12, as his contract was selected and added to Toronto’s 40-man roster. Jimenez picked up two hits in his first game back in the Majors.

Once one of baseball’s premier prospects and an AL Silver Slugger, Jimenez slashed .257/.372/.371 with Buffalo this season. However, it was more of a need for a bat that got Jimenez back in the MLB, rather than because of his performance.

Toronto placed George Springer on the IL with a toe fracture.

Gerber up, Garcia DFA’d

The Mets promoted pitcher Joey Gerber to the Majors on April 12. In a corresponding move, Luis Garcia was designated for assignment.

Gerber was acquired in a November 2025 trade with the Rays. The right-hander induced a lot of swing-and-miss in the Minors and possesses a high-ride fastball, as well as three secondary offerings. Before the promotion, Gerber struck out five over five innings with Triple-A Syracuse.

Garcia, signed to a one-year deal in January, conceded 11 hits over 6.1 IP with the Mets.

Angels add Sandlin

The Angels selected Nick Sandlin‘s contract on April 12.

Sandlin was a mainstay of the Guardians’ bullpen for years before he was traded to Toronto two winters ago. He missed most of last season thanks to several injuries and was brought in by the Angels on a Minor League deal in January.

The right-hander was touched up in his return to the Majors, as he gave up two runs over .1 IP.

In a corresponding move, pitcher George Klassen was optioned to Triple-A.

Other moves

The Cubs selected pitcher Charlie Barnes from Triple-A Iowa.

Josh Fleming, DFA’d by the Blue Jays earlier in the week after a bulk relief outing, was re-signed on a Minor League deal.

Dylan Dodd (Braves) and Jonathan Cannon (White Sox) were recalled from Triple-A.

The Braves designated Martin Perez for assignment.

Duncan Davitt (White Sox) and Joe Rock (Rays) were optioned to Triple-A.
