2026 Transactions: D-Backs Promote Santana, Braves DFA Young

It’s been a week of change for the Diamondbacks’ bullpen. Paul Sewald is gone, and Dennis Santana is now in as the team looks to fill out their bullpen for the stretch run. Plus, Brett Callahan was promoted to the Majors by the Detroit Tigers.

Santana back in Majors

The Diamondbacks selected former Pirates closer Dennis Santana from Arizona’s Triple-A affiliate.

Santana was designated for assignment by the Pirates in July after he fell out of favor with the club throughout the season. He signed the Diamondbacks on a Minor League deal in early August before his promotion back to the Majors.

The right-hander struck out three and allowed three runs over 1.2 IP with Reno.

Other contract selections

The Tigers called up 2023 draft pick Brett Callahan from Triple-A Toledo. Callahan, who picked up his first big-league hit on the day, had 13 home runs and an OPS above .800 between Double-A and Triple-A this season.

Ray Kerr is back in the Majors, as the lefty was selected by the Atlanta Braves.
