
Before May 17, Lucas Giolito hadn’t pitched for an NL team since 2016 with the Nationals, the team that drafted him. But that changed, as Giolito toed the slab for the San Diego Padres. He was officially recalled on the 17th, one of several notable moves.
The Dodgers acquired Eric Lauer from the Blue Jays for cash on May 17.
Lauer was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays last week. However, the Dodgers will take a shot on the lefty who had an ERA north of 6.00 last season, and saw the effectiveness of some of his pitches dip between 2025 and 2026. Including a slider that has just a Whiff% of 13%, far below the 30% from 2025.
The Brewers and Padres called up fresh arms to make starts for the respective teams. Robert Gasser was recalled from Triple-A Nashville by Milwaukee, while the Padres called up Lucas Giolito from Triple-A El Paso.
Giolito spent the last month in the Minors after he signed with the Padres in April.
Carson Williams (Rays), Chayce McDermott (Dodgers), Paul Gervase (Dodgers), Jose Franco (Reds), Adam Macko (Blue Jays), and Cameron Foster (Orioles) were recalled from the Minors.
Alek Manoah (Angels), Zach Agnos (Rockies), Josh Walker (Orioles), Luis Mey (Reds), Christian Roa (Cubs), Charlie Barnes (Dodgers), Javier Assad (Cubs), and Alek Jacob (Padres) were optioned to Triple-A.
Aaron Brooks was sent outright to Triple-A Durham by the Rays.
The Cubs selected Ty Blach from Triple-A Iowa.
P.J. Higgins is back in the Majors, as the Reds selected his contract from Triple-A.
Peter Strzelecki (Brewers) and Rece Hinds (Reds) were designated for assignment.
