Before the 2026-27 MLB offseason officially begins after the World Series, Kansas City outrighted five players off the 40-man roster. Among that group was Alec Marsh, Connor Seabold, and reliever Alex Lange.
The Royals outrighted five players on October 22, all pitchers. Those individuals were Alex Lange, Alec Marsh, Connor Seabold, Mason Black, and Easton McGee.
Lange is the most significant name among this group of five, at least with respect to production from the 2026 campaign. Kansas City signed Lange to a one-year deal in November 2025 after he spent parts of five MLB seasons with the Tigers.
The right-hander wound up pitching in 59 games, striking out 60 over 60. And thanks to a lengthy IL stint for Carlos Estevez, plus struggles from Lucas Erceg, Lange wound up getting time as the Royals’ closer. He notched 10 saves but also conceded 13 home runs overall during the year.
His .385 opponents’ wOBA ranked as the third-highest among relief pitchers with 35+ games pitched in 2026. The only other two who were behind him were Justin Lawrence and fellow Royals pitcher Matt Strahm.
Alec Marsh was, at one point, a nice back-end starter for the Royals. However, injuries derailed his past two seasons.
During the 2024 season, Marsh tossed at least five innings in 14 of 24 appearances. However, he was hurt for all of 2025 and missed the entire 2026 campaign thanks to shoulder surgery.
As for the other three, McGee allowed nine runs in 11.1 IP MLB innings, which were split between Kansas City and Milwaukee. Seabold, who bounced around three teams (DET, KC, TOR), pitched in 21 games in 2026. Black, acquired in November 2025, made 17 relief outings for the Royals, walking 20 over 31.1 IP.
McGee and Seabold elected free agency on the 22nd.
