2026 Transactions: Yankees Recall Gil, Option Beck

So far, it’s been a quiet few days before September 1, the cutoff for adding new players to an organization and having them eligible for the playoffs. Arguably, the most notable move made on August 30 was the Yankees bringing back pitcher Luis Gil from the Minors.

Yankees make bullpen moves

The Yankees optioned Brendan Beck on August 30, one day after he saw action during the second game of the club’s doubleheader versus the Red Sox. Yerry De los Santos was also optioned, while Luis Gil was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Gil only pitched in six Minor League games since he was optioned to the Minors back in April. He missed three months on the IL after being placed there in May, and wasn’t activated until August 18 after two rehab appearances in High-A.

He worked in one- or two-inning stints between Hudson Valley and Scranton.

Robert Jr., Schreiber on waivers

For those who missed the news on August 29, Mets outfielder Luis Robert Jr. and Royals reliever John Schreiber were placed on waivers by their respective clubs (h/t MLB.com, New York Post).

Robert Jr. is the big name on this list, as he’s a former All-Star who missed a healthy chunk of the 2026 season due to injury. The Mets have given him regular time over the past few weeks, although the price tag ($5MM between owed salary and a buyout of his 2027 team option) to take Robert Jr. on is high.

Recalls & options

Mitch Farris (Angels), Blake Weiman (Angels), Gabriel Gonzalez (Twins), Sung-Mun Song (Padres), Cesar Prieto (Cardinals), and Nick Davila (Mariners) were recalled from the Minors.

Matt Wilkinson (Giants), Mickey Gasper (Red Sox), Anthony Seigler (Red Sox), Trevor Martin (Angels), Raymond Burgos (Red Sox), and Mitch Bratt (D-backs) were optioned.

Other notes

The Twins sent Woo-Suk Go outright to Triple-A St. Paul.
