While the Baltimore Orioles attempt to right the ship this season, the club is also dealing with several injuries on the roster. On Wednesday, the franchise received important updates for two pitchers.
In the latest injury updates on MLB.com, starting pitcher Cade Povich and reliever Colin Selby both received updates regarding their respective injuries. However, neither has a return date lined up, as they continue their recovery process. Povich was given a cortisone shot for his left elbow injury, while Selby continues treatment on his right shoulder.
“Exited May 7 start in Miami due to left forearm discomfort,” said MLB.com about Povich. “Was examined by Dr. Keith Meister and received cortisone shot on May 19.”
“Was evaluated on May 19 due to mild shoulder symptoms,” reported MLB.com about Selby. “Continuing to discuss treatment options. No clear timeline for return.”
Povich, who is 26 years old, was placed on the 15-day IL after exiting the Orioles’ 4-3 loss to the Miami Marlins on May 7. Baltimore is certainly monitoring his situation before determining when exactly he could return to action.
As for Selby, the 28-year-old right-hander is dealing with right shoulder inflammation. He was placed on the 60-day IL on February 14. Based on his injury update, it sounds like Selby could be in for a long recovery process.
In the meantime, the Orioles are focusing on the season at hand. Manager Craig Albernaz is utilizing a starting rotation consisting of Trevor Rogers, Kyle Bradish, Shane Baz, Chris Bassitt, and Brandon Young. Meanwhile, the bulk of the bullpen includes Rico Garcia, Anthony Nunez, Andrew Kittredge, Keegan Akin, and Yennier Cano.
