For decades, game days looked the same for one diehard Los Angeles Dodgers supporter – walk in, ticket in hand, no fuss. However, in 2026, that routine hit a wall. Not because of the team on the field, but because of a system shift that’s leaving some longtime fans behind.
As teams across MLB lean into fully digital experiences, the gap between convenience and inclusion is becoming apparent. And for older fans, it’s become a barrier.
According to a CBS News report on April 6, 2026, 81-year-old Errol Segal (a season ticket holder for over 50 years) was denied printed tickets after the Dodgers moved to a digital-only system. Segal, who uses a flip phone and isn’t comfortable with computers or apps like MLB Ballpark, was effectively locked out.
This 81 year old man is a lifelong Dodgers fan & has been a season pass holder for over 50 years & was just told that he would no longer be allowed to get printed tickets only digital from now on & he’s barely able to navigate a computer & phone.Dodgers aren’t replying to anyone. pic.twitter.com/mwQaHNKeLA

He even missed Opening Day at Dodger Stadium, his first absence in five decades. The situation gets murkier. Segal managed to buy a printed single-game ticket at the box office, proving the option still exists. When the team offered to buy back his season tickets, he pushed back hard.
The Dodgers haven’t publicly responded, but the situation highlights a growing “digital divide” as leagues prioritize efficiency over accessibility.
The Los Angeles Dodgers wrapped Week 2 on April 5 with a strong bounce-back, finishing 7-2 after sweeping the Washington Nationals. That road trip changed the vibe after a shaky home series.
Things looked uneven early, with L.A. dropping two of three to the Cleveland Guardians. However, the offense caught fire in Washington, piling up 31 runs across three straight wins.
Andy Pages went nuclear, hitting .583, while Shohei Ohtani dominated in his pitching debut. Freddie Freeman hit a milestone, but Mookie Betts’ landing on the IL adds a wrinkle heading into Toronto.
