The New York Yankees fans were already upset with a six-game losing streak. However, instead of getting better, the Yankees slid further, accepting their seventh loss in a row after losing against the Detroit Tigers.

When it comes to the Yankees’ captain, he is hardly unreserved when it comes to commenting on their game. But even before witnessing the 6-2 loss against the Tigers on Wednesday, July 1, Judge shared his honest opinion.

“Well, it’s not great,” Judge said before Wednesday’s game against the Tigers as quoted by The Athletic. “Just a little lack of focus. We just gotta dial it in. Our ultimate goal is to win a World Series. I think guys have to remember that every single day they show up here. We’re here to win a World Series.”

Tuesday’s loss to Tarik Skubal and Detroit was another tough night for the Yankees’ offense. Before their seventh loss, New York had managed only 16 hits in its last five games while striking out 10 or more times in eight of its last 10 games, the YES Network reported. This led Judge to focus on showing up for the team.

“That should motivate you every single day you step on that field, no matter what happens, no matter what happens the day before. ‘I got a job to do,’” he added. “We’ve got an important sign when you walk out on the field. It’s the last sign you see before you’re out there; it says do your job. Guys are here to do their job.”

Before the July 1 game, New York had set a franchise low for any five-game span, according to ESPN

The Yankees narrowly avoided becoming the first MLB team since 1900 to finish with three or fewer hits in five straight games after two ninth-inning singles. Over the five-game stretch, they were 8-for-107 (.075) with 38 strikeouts and a .264 OPS against opposing starters.

Even though the Pinstripes, led by Judge, went ahead with motivation, it was not enough for them to win against Detroit on Wednesday

Yankees hit longest skid in nearly three years

Spencer Torkelson drew a bases-loaded walk from Camilo Doval to drive in the go-ahead run, helping Detroit score four times in the 11th inning.

After intentionally walking Riley Greene with two outs in the 11th, Doval (3-1) lost command and walked Hao-Yu Lee and Spencer Torkelson to load the bases.

Zach McKinstry made the Yankees pay with a two-run single, and Gary Sánchez’s throwing error allowed another run to score, extending New York’s error count to 17 in 12 games.

And with this, Judge and the Yankees entered their longest losing streak since 2023, when they lost nine games in August, three years back, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

As reported by The Athletic, food poisoning spread through the Yankees’ clubhouse Tuesday night. Aaron Boone said “seven or eight players” fell ill, leaving him with fewer players to choose from.
