Alec Bohm delivered a walk-off, two-run triple in the 10th inning Friday, lifting the Philadelphia Phillies to a 7-6 win over the St. Louis Cardinals and stretching their winning streak to seven games.
For Bohm, it’s been a tale of two halves for the 30-year-old infielder. Bohm posted a .215 batting average and a .632 OPS across 92 games before the All-Star break, then turned into one of the better bats in baseball, hitting .331 with an .862 OPS and 27 RBIs over his last 32 games.
His recent success now complicates a decision the Phillies front office looked ready to make. Bohm’s time in Philadelphia is coming to an end after this season, after signing a one-year, $10.2 million contract to avoid arbitration before the 2026 season.

His early slump this season had fans writing him off, even fueling trade speculations tying him to names like Alex Bregman and Matt Chapman.
Philadelphia never pulled the trigger and instead shifted around the defense after acquiring Luis Arraez in early August, which saw Bohm move to first base. That change of scenery looked like it made a difference, as Bohm has looked better by the week.
Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski has said in the past that he wants to keep the current core of players, while acknowledging it wouldn’t be easy. Now, whether that line of thinking extends to Bohm, a homegrown player since being drafted in 2018, is the question he will have to answer.
The Phillies trail the Atlanta Braves by four games in the National League East with nearly five weeks left of the season. If Bohm keeps this hot streak alive, Dombrowski may not have much of a decision at all.
