The Boston Red Sox are a team on the rise after their strong showing last season. Manager Alex Cora guided the team to their first postseason appearance since 2021. However, Cora will be desperate to lead the Red Sox to the World Series over the next couple of years.

Alex Cora remained coy about discussing his future with the Boston Red Sox, with less than two years remaining on his contract with the team. The 50-year-old is currently focusing on leading the Red Sox to another playoff appearance again this year. Cora is quite optimistic about his team taking another step forward this year after several losing seasons.

“We have to talk about it. We made a decision on the last [contract] to keep it at three years, and there was a reason,” he told Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe. “I like where the team is at. It’s fun again. We have a good chance to do what that group did in ’18. They only won one, but we can get to the playoffs consistently, and that’s what you want.”

Alex Cora led the Red Sox to the World Series title in 2018, at the end of his first year in charge of the club. However, Boston has made just two playoff runs since then.

Family Will be Primary Focus For Alex Cora Before Signing Extension With Red Sox

Alex Cora stated that the needs of his family have top priority when it comes to deciding on a new contract. He feels the education of his elementary school-aged twin boys will be the key focus when the time comes to decide on his next contract.

“We’re very happy with what this organization means to us,” Cora said. “It’s the world. We’ve been talking for a little bit here and talking to [my partner] Angelica [and daughter] Camila, and this is home for us. I just want to be happy and comfortable.”

“I think if we’re going to continue to do this as a family, there’s big decisions to come like school. Right now [my sons] are in third grade and it’s easy. But fifth grade, sixth grade, it’s different. We have to make decisions based on that.”

Alex Cora signed a three-year extension to stay with the Red Sox in July 2024. He reportedly earns over $7 million per year.
