Alex Cora Provides Timeline for Alex Bregman to Return to Red Sox Lineup

The Boston Red Sox have been without their big free agent signing for some time now, but ahead of the game against the Los Angeles Angels, Alex Cora provided an encouraging update on the star third baseman.

According to Tim Healey of the Boston Globe, Cora said that it "looks like" Alex Bregman won't be back until after the All-Star break. If that timeline holds, and Bregman doesn't return until after that, it'd put Bregman down as returning as early as July 18th.

The Red Sox third baseman has been at the center of conversations in recent days for a couple of reasons. From potentially being traded to being open to a contract extension, Bregman has been dominating the headlines in Boston.

But this new update from Cora points towards the more immediate return with BRegman. He's not expected to be back until after the All-Star break, which would also leave him just two weeks until the MLB trade deadline, once he is likely to return at the earliest.

With how great he was to start the season, Bregman's return to the Red Sox lineup would be a huge boost. Across his 51 games played, Bregman had a slash line of .299/ .385/ .553 with a .938 OPS before he was hurt.

In 2025, Bregman has 59 hits, 32 runs scored, 17 doubles, 11 home runs, 35 RBIs, 22 walks, and 42 strikeouts. He was the team's most prominent offensive player, even with Rafael Devers tearing the cover off the baseball.

Bregman is currently on the injured list, and has been since May 23rd. He's missed a month up until this point, and after this update from Cora, he's projected to miss around one more month of the year.

Fortunately, the All-Star break will help lower the games missed from Bregman, and his return could also spark the Red Sox into true buyers at the deadline. Despite trading Devers, Bregman could return and replace his offensive firepower based on the season he was having before his injury.

This is a big update from Cora, and is the first clear timeline the Red Sox have with Bregman after his quadriceps injury, which he suffered back in May.
