Last winter, there were only three managerial changes — small compared to past offseasons. This winter, there’s potential for a lot more. With the end of the 2025 regular season came managerial changes, as several MLB teams are looking for new leaders to lead their benches. And, one team filled its vacancy within the first week of the offseason.
At least five teams will have new managers in 2026, as the Angels, Braves, Giants, Rangers, and Twins all either dismissed or mutually agreed to part ways with their 2025 manager.
Team | 2025 Manager | 2026 Manager |
---|---|---|
Angels | Ron Washington/Ray Montgomery | N/A |
Braves | Brian Snitker | N/A |
Giants | Bob Melvin | N/A |
Rangers | Bruce Bochy | Skip Schumaker |
Twins | Rocco Baldelli | N/A |
As of October 6, one team has already filled its managerial vacancy. Skip Schumaker, who left the Marlins after the 2024 campaign, was hired to fill the Rangers’ open manager position. Schumaker, an advisor in the team’s front office last season, takes over for Bruce Bochy.
Bochy and the Rangers mutually agreed to part ways after the regular season.
The Los Angeles Angels will be looking for a new manager yet again, after the team hired Ron Washington two years ago. Washington was there for two seasons but missed much of 2025 on medical leave.
San Francisco will be looking for a new manager yet again after Bob Melvin served in the role for two years. The Braves and Twins also have vacancies.
Aside from the five teams listed above, three other teams — the Rockies, Nationals, and Orioles — all finished the year with interim managers. All three may very well have new managers come 2026.
Washington finished the year with Miguel Cairo as manager. Cairo took over from Davey Martinez, who was fired midseason along with ex-president of baseball operations Mike Rizzo.
The Orioles went 60-59 under Tony Mansolino, who took over from Brandon Hyde after 43 games into the 2025 campaign. However, the Orioles will consider both Mansolino and other candidates to be the manager full-time.
Warren Schaeffer took over from Bud Black in Colorado as interim manager. However, the Rockies — who are looking for a new GM/president of baseball ops — have not yet decided on Schaeffer’s future.
