All-Star Tarik Skubal Doesn’t Dress Loud He Just Throws Hard

The only fashion Detroit Tigers’ ace Tarik Skubal cares about is uniforms. And for the reigning American League Cy Young winner, make them classic.

Walking the MLB All-Star Game Red Carpet on Tuesday, the Tigers' ace showed up in a simple, elegant all-black outfit.  He wore a clean, upscale, yet laid-back outfit. When asked by the MLB Network hosts Harold Reynolds and Greg Amsinger what he was wearing, Skubal laughed.

“I have it in a text message here, I think,” he said, pulling out his phone.

After reading off what his stylist told him to say, word for word, Skubal made it clear he’s not exactly living for the red carpet moment.

“Obviously not,” he said with a grin, “if I have to go to the text to tell you what I’m wearing.”

But when the conversation turned to uniforms, the kind with a number and a logo, Skubal had much stronger feelings. The Tigers’ rotation leader is loyal to the look that made him. He likes repping the Old English ‘D’ on his chest.

Detroit has added a few alternates in recent years, including the black-and-blue “Motor City” City Connect jerseys. They’re popular. They sell well. They even look sharp under the Friday night lights.

But Skubal isn’t biting.

“I like the whites and greys,” he said, no hesitation.

Skubal will be sporting the grey Tigers uniform Tuesday night when he starts for the American League squad.

So he played along Tuesday afternoon in his black outfit, but he’ll clearly be more comfortable when he takes the mound in Atlanta in his Tigers’ uni.

After all, the only drip Skubal’s chasing is strikeouts.
