Brad Lidge: 'My ankle was up by my mouth at some point'
The mosh pit celebration is the pinnacle of sports. With the World Series starting on Friday, one former Series champion gave the fans insight into what it felt like to be at the bottom of one.
"My ankle was up by my mouth at some point," Former Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Brad Lidge said. "But I was still screaming for joy, so that lets you know the elation there."

As the Phillies get ready to take on the Houston Astros in the 2022 World Series, Lidge has been reflecting on the run that won Philly its second title in 2008.
"I remember running out there, and I just kept thinking to myself 'don't get ahead of yourself," Lidge said. "Stay locked in and in the moment. Think about executing the pitches. Otherwise, that moment will never come that we dream about."
Lidge is an interesting story, especially this week. Not only did he win the World Series with the Phillies, but he also began his career with the Houston Astros, the Phillies opponent this year. Lidge has been asked often about which team he will side with, and his answer has stayed the same.
"I loved my time in Houston," Lidge said. Incredible memories there. Incredible teammates. But we won the whole thing with the Phillies. And when I retired, the Phillies immediately reached out to me and said we want to have your family out and retire you as a Phillie."
No matter who Lidge is rooting for, he seems a likely candidate to throw out the first pitch at some point during the series.

Orioles' latest extension could spell doom for All-Star catcher
It's not a good day to be Adley Rutschman. The All-Star catcher could face an uncertain future with the Baltimore Orioles after ESPN's Jeff Passan reported an extension agreement between the club and top prospect Samuel Basallo on Friday morning. Basallo has just four games of MLB experience to his name, but the Orioles are investing in his future development at the big league level, with his plus hit tool that could make him a middle-of-the-order bat in Baltimore for years to come. On the flip side, this extension comes with potential consequences for Rutschman, who has suddenly gone from franchise player to tradeable asset. Selected first overall in 2019 by the Orioles out of Oregon State University, Rutschman was the first prominent figure of Baltimore's rebuild, debuting in 2022 and catapulting the club to back-to-back playoff appearances in 2023 and 2024. And while both of those runs were short-lived, there didn't seem to be much doubt that he would quickly entrench himself as a franchise cornerstone. However, Rutschman has struggled in 2025. The 27-year-old has spent time on the injured list, but even when on the field, his OPS of .684 and OPS+ of 92 are both below-average and short of his career .758 OPS and 116 OPS+, respectively. That lack of production, combined with injuries, has clearly sown doubt into the Orioles' belief that he will remain a key cog of Baltimore's future. And while it's possible that Basallo could eventually move to first base down the line, that doesn't change the perception that Rutschman might feel like an odd man out at Camden Yards. For years, many Orioles fans and pundits had been calling for Rutschman to be extended, along with shortstop Gunnar Henderson, who continues to shine amid larger team struggles. That doesn't seem to be the direction executive vice president and general manager Mike Elias is taking, though, as he appears content to let Rutschman and Henderson walk when they reach free agency. And in the case of Rutschman, specifically, he could now become an intriguing trade chip this winter if the Orioles are so inclined.
Commanders flaw exposed in blowout preseason loss to Ravens
The Washington Commanders have a potentially significant problem on special teams. During Saturday's 30-3 preseason Week 3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, kicker Matt Gay missed a 53-yard field goal wide left at the end of Washington's first offensive possession. Gay finished the preseason 3-of-5 on field goal attempts. He also missed a 49-yarder wide left in preseason Week 1 against the New England Patriots. Gay's struggles continue the chaotic journey for the Commanders at kicker. Last season's Week 1 starter, Cade York, went 0-of-2 in the opener and was promptly released. His replacement, Austin Seibert, was in the midst of a fantastic season through Week 9, going 25-of-27 on field goals and 22-of-22 on extra points before missing two weeks with a hip injury. He was later placed on injured reserve after missing three kicks in a loss to the Dallas Cowboys, including a would-be tying extra point following a wild 86-yard touchdown with under a minute remaining. Zane Gonzalez and Greg Joseph combined to go 7-of-10 on field goals the rest of the season, including each missing a 50-yard attempt. Overall, Commanders kickers struggled from long distance, with the four combining to go 2-of-8 on attempts of 50 yards or more. Only the Philadelphia Eagles had a worse percentage (14.3%) on attempts of at least 50 yards, per Pro Football Reference data. Washington signed Gay to a one-year, $4.25M fully guaranteed contract in late April following the 2025 NFL Draft. Per CBS Sports, it's the largest guaranteed contract for a kicker on a one-year deal in NFL history. Last season while with the Indianapolis Colts, Gay was 3-of-9 on 50-yard field goals. The Commanders have the talent on offense to be one of the league's top scoring units, so they might not need to convert many tries from over 50 yards. Still, having a kicker who can reliably hit from that distance is an undeniable asset, particularly late in close games or on possessions that stall after crossing midfield. Washington largely has a roster capable of contending for a Super Bowl. But following its final tune-up before the regular season, kicking is a notable flaw.
