Road-tested Phillies equal impressive franchise mark

The Philadelphia Phillies simply can't be beaten on the road.

On Friday night, the Phillies overcame a two-run deficit in the ninth inning to stun the Miami Marlins, 4-3, winning their 13th game in a row away from Citizens Bank Park to equal a franchise record set in 1976. The Phillies' road winning streak is the longest in baseball since the Atlanta Braves reeled off 13 straight victories in 2021.

After being shut down at the plate for most of the game by Marlins' starter Sandy Alcantara, the Phillies' streak looked to be coming to a close, with the squad heading into the ninth trailing 3-1. The Phillies would rally back, though, recording a three-run inning off Marlins' closer A.J. Puk, one which was capped off by a go-ahead two-run home run from pinch-hitter Cristian Pache.

The Phillies' huge late-inning victory came against a Marlins team that entered Friday with a 21-5 record in one-run games, the best in baseball.

Following a slow start to the 2023 campaign, the reigning National League champions have come around lately. Friday night's win increased the Phillies' modest win streak to four games following a three-game sweep on the road against the Tampa Bay Rays (57-34), who hold the best record in the American League.

On June 1, the Phillies were five games below .500 (25-30) and slotted fourth in the National League East. Since then, the Philadelphia has gone 22-9 and currently owns the third wildcard spot in the NL at 48-39. They still trail the first-place Atlanta Braves by 11 games for the division lead.
