Angels Make Decision Immediately After Trade With Rangers

The Los Angeles Angels organization made a roster decision following their late night trade with the Texas Rangers on Wednesday.

In their pre-deadline day trade, the Rangers acquired right-handed reliever Chase Silseth and catcher Logan O'Hoppe from the Angels in exchange for 19-year-old minor-league infielder Angel Arredondo.

The trade surprised many as Arredondo was not even a top-30 prospect in the Rangers system, and was worth a solid reliever in Silseth and a major-league catcher in O'Hoppe.

While Silseth will be a key piece in Texas' bullpen for the final stretch of the year, O'Hoppe was sent down to Triple-A to work on his swing.

Also following the trade, The Angels assigned Arredondo to Low-A Rancho Cucamonga.

Over his minor-league career in Rookie and Low-A ball, Arredondo has slashed .244/.385/.357, good for a .742 OPS, along with nine home runs, 74 RBI and 128 hits in 162 games played.

Arredondo is an excellent defender at third base and can play a solid shortstop.

The 19-year-old is progressing well and he can continue to climb the ranks as long as his bat can step up. With only nine home runs and 124 strikeouts over 162 games, there is some concern.

It will be interesting to see how the young infielder performs in his new environment.
