The Los Angeles Angels have hit a skid after their hot start to the 2025 MLB season. Entering Saturday, LA was 12-13 on the season, having won just three of its last 10 games. While the AL West standings remain tight, this stretch has dropped the Angels to last place in the division.

Looking to bounce back from an 11-4 series opener loss to the Minnesota Twins on Friday, the Angels did not get started off any better on Saturday. Falling in an early 4-0 hole after two innings, Los Angeles also received some unfortunate news regarding one of its regular starters.

Fouling a ball off his his knee in the fourth inning, first baseman Nolan Schanuel was removed from the game, needing assistance to leave the field. The Angels have since announced an official update.

"Nolan Schanuel was removed from today's game with a right knee contusion," the team wrote on X.

In his second full MLB season after debuting for Los Angeles in 2023, Schanuel has yet to find consistency at the plate. The left-handed hitting first baseman has a .709 OPS in 89 at-bats this season, which is just one point below his career mark.

Still just 23 years old, Schanuel has displayed impressive on-base skills in his young career, but the power remains far behind the more productive hitters at his position. The No. 11 overall pick in the 2023 MLB draft has just 16 home runs in 717 Major League at-bats, owning a .360 slugging percentage for his career.
