Angels Make Unfortunate Announcement Before Red Sox Game

The Los Angeles Angels recently welcomed superstar outfielder Mike Trout back from the injured list. Suffering a left knee bone bruise on April 30, Trout returned on Friday against the Cleveland Guardians.

Starting the first two games against Cleveland, and making a pinch-hit appearance in the series finale, Trout went 5-for-10 over the weekend. It was an encouraging sign for both he and the team, despite LA dropping two of the three games.

While Trout's return boosted the morale in Anaheim, the Angels are still dealing with other injuries that have their roster depleted entering a three-game set against the Boston Red Sox.

The Angels suffered two injury scares recently, one to third baseman Yoan Moncada and the other to relief pitcher Robert Stephenson. Recently returning from Tommy John surgery, Stephenson was forced to exit just his second outing of the year due to an apparent biceps injury.

Moncada also left a recent game due to right knee soreness, but pinch-hit in Sunday's loss to Cleveland. On Monday, the Angels announced the unfortunate news that both players are heading to the injured list.

In response to these injuries, the Angels have recalled Matthew Lugo and Sam Aldegheri. This news comes after Angels manager Ron Washington said Stephenson would seemingly be okay following the injury scare ( via Jeff Fletcher of OC Register), and while that may still be the case longterm, he has not avoided another trip to the injured list.

The Angels and Red Sox will begin a three-game set on Monday evening at Fenway Park in Boston.
