Another MLB season, another stint on the injured list for Los Angeles Angels superstar Mike Trout.
The three-time MVP and 11-time All-Star was officially placed on the 10-day IL on May 2, although the roster move will be retroactive to May 1. The injury was classified as a "left knee contusion."
Trout originally suffered the injury on April 30, exiting Wednesday's game early. The issue occurred while the outfielder was running to first base.
On the evening of May 2, Trout provided a hopeful update on his injury, as well as a potential recovery timeline (via Angels beat writer Jeff Fletcher).
"Yesterday I was pretty sore, but today is a lot better," Trout told the media. Fletcher added that Trout said "he's hoping to make this a minimum IL stay."

He said he’s hoping to make this a minimum IL stay.
He acknowledged that other injuries have dragged on, but he said he thinks this is different because there’s no structural damage and it’s already better.
"[Trout] acknowledged that other injuries have dragged on, but he said he thinks this is different because there's no structural damage and it's already better," Fletcher explained.
If Trout is right about the expected length of this injury absence, this is the best news any Angels — or general baseball — fan could hope for. He'll have another week and change to rest up on the IL before he's eligible to return.
Early in the 2025 campaign, the 33-year-old Trout is batting a career-worst .179, with a slugging percentage of .462 and an OPS of .727. The latter two figures are slightly better than his rookie season, but that's all.
Despite the low batting average, Trout already has 9 home runs and 18 RBI, exceeding his 2024 total for runs batted in.
After getting off to a brief first-place start, the Angels now sit dead last in the AL West at 12-18. They've lost 8 out of their last 10.
