Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon is injured again. The 2019 World Series champion inked a seven-year, $245 million contract with Los Angeles ahead of the 2020 season, and has played just 257 games since.

While Rendon had a strong first season in Anaheim during the shortened 2020 campaign, posting a 150 OPS+ in 52 games, he has failed to stay on the field since then. Additionally, Rendon's production has been poor in the games he has been available.

In his 257 games with the Angels, Rendon has just 22 home runs and 93 RBI. For comparison, the two-time Silver Slugger Award winner hit 34 home runs with a league-best 126 RBI in just the 2019 season alone.

Ahead of the 2025 MLB season it was announced that Rendon would again be sidelined for an extended period of time.

"News: Anthony Rendon is having hip surgery, and is expected to miss a long amount of time," Sam Blum of The Athletic reported on Feb. 12. "He had a setback in his rehab the last few weeks. Another injury for Rendon, and it now becomes unclear if and when he’ll play for the Angels again."

As Blum noted, it was unclear at the time of this news if Rendon would ever play for the Angels again. On Monday, team owner Arte Moreno announced the $245 million third baseman will not play at all this season.

"And [Anthony] Rendon has two years left on his deal, and he’s obviously not going to play this year," Moreno announced, via Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com.

The Angels signed former Chicago White Sox star Yoan Moncada this offseason to play third base. Coming off a season in which he played just 12 games, Moncada is looking to regain his 2019 form when he posted a 140 OPS+ in 132 games.
