The Baltimore Orioles challenged the odds on Mother’s Day, beating the Athletics 2-1 despite managing only six hits and two runs in a tense series finale at Camden Yards.

Keegan Akin opened with a clean first inning before Chris Bassitt steadied Baltimore after allowing a second-inning sacrifice fly that put the Athletics ahead.

Gunnar Henderson levelled it with an infield single in the third, and Dylan Beavers delivered the decisive sixth-inning hit before Baltimore survived late pressure and avoided a sweep.

Anthony Nunez had already protected Baltimore’s 2-1 lead when he walked off the mound and mouthed, “It’s a boy,” directly into the camera.

The message was for his brother Danny and sister-in-law Micaela, who were expecting their third child and had gathered with family on Mother’s Day.

It turned a routine relief appearance into one of the most unusual gender reveals ever, with Nunez carrying the answer while his family waited away from the field.

That timing made the moment even sharper. Baltimore needed calm pitching, but Nunez also carried a private family secret into a high-pressure eighth inning.
