The Arizona Diamondbacks took a massive hit, and one of their first blows of the 2025 season, as Ketel Marte was injured in the first inning of last nights matchup against the Washington Nationals.

Marte slugged one deep all the way back to the center field wall, although when he rounded first base and sprinted towards second, you could tell something was wrong.  He looked visibly frustrated and started to pull up slowly to get his double. Marte unfortunately was seen limping off of the field shortly after alongside the Arizona Diamondbacks trainers, and Garrett Hampson took over his duties for the rest of the night.

This isn’t the first hamstring problem that Ketel Marte has encountered in his career, as he’s had previous injuries in 2019, 2021, and 2022.

Corbin Carroll, who hit two home-runs last night commented on the injury, as he mentioned: “To see him pull up like that in the first inning was not, no one in the dugout was feeling good.

Ketel Marte earlier this week signed a massive six-year deal that will guarantee the star second baseman receives $116.5 million through 2031, and $46 million that was included as well but deferred. The Arizona Diamondbacks despite injures coming and going, wanted to lock up Marte for the future. When he is healthy, he is the best second baseman in the league, and one of the top players in all of the MLB. The Snakes will be eager to get him back on the field as soon as possible.

Torey Lovullo spoke on the matter after last nights game:

“We’re going to continue to evaluate him, most likely headed for the IL. We budget for these hard times. The timing of it isn’t ideal, but we have players that are ready to step in and hold down the fort until he gets back.”
