Arizona Diamondbacks Third Baseman Eugenio Suarez had a game for the ages on Saturday. He hit home runs in four consecutive at-bats against the Atlanta Braves. Unfortunately, he became the first player in league history to accomplish this feat and have his team lose the game. He also raised his Slugging Percentage by 153 points. No other MLB player in the modern era has raised his slugging percentage by 150 points in one day.
Suarez finished the game 4-of-4 with 5 RBI. He was having a disappointing season before his historic performance Saturday night. He is now leading the league in home runs and 14th in RBI. Will Suarez be able to carry his performance into the upcoming games?
The Diamondbacks have struggled as of late. They have dropped four straight games. Arizona is 14-13 and in fourth place in the National League West. Arizona’s offense has been strong. They are 13th in batting average, fourth in home runs, and second in runs scored. Right Fielder Corbin Carroll is top 10 in the league in home runs, RBI, and OPS.
Arizona’s pitching staff has been poor. They are 24th in ERA, 14th in opposing batting average, and 15th in WHIP. Starting Pitcher Brandon Pfaadt has gotten off to a strong start. He is 4-1 with a 2.73 ERA. The team has high expectations this season. They must keep producing on offense while the pitching staff finds its form.
Suarez and the Arizona Diamondbacks return to the diamond this afternoon against the Atlanta Braves. The Diamondbacks are looking to get back in the column on Sunday. Suarez will look to parlay his performance on Saturday into sustained success.
