Merrill Kelly had another outstanding start on Sunday. He pitched seven innings and allowed only one hit and no earned runs. Kelly had no hitter through five innings, but he gave up a double in the sixth inning, though that was his only blemish on the day. Kevin Ginkel came in the eighth inning in a one-run game and shut it down. In Ginkel’s last four appearances, he hasn’t allowed a hit.

The eighth inning had opportunities for Arizona, though the old haunting issue of leaving runners on base came back. The Diamondbacks had runners on first and second with no outs, though was unable to bring a run across to widen their lead.
Shelby Miller entered as the closer for the Arizona Diamondbacks. It was a nervous stretch as Miller gave up a one-out single to Kyle Farmer, then a double to Hunter Goodman after Corbin Carroll slid out in right field to make the catch but missed it by a foot or so. After walking the bases loaded, Miller was able to get Brenton Doyle to hit a one-out high infield pop-up. Michael Toglia then stepped up to the plate and hit a screamer right up the middle, but the defensive assignment was perfect as it was nailed right to Geraldo Perdomo for the final out of the game.
Rivalry weekend saw a lot of high powered offense, until Sunday’s stalling. Though a win is a win for this ball club, as they know how much these games will count towards the end of the season. The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Rockies on Sunday by a score of 1-0 at Chase Field and take the series, and will now gear up for a six game road trip starting in Los Angeles for a three game series against the Dodgers.
